DORCHESTER, MA (NOVEMBER 11, 2022) – Cristo Rey Boston High School [cristoreyboston.org], a Catholic high school in Dorchester that exclusively serves students from under-resourced communities across Greater Boston, announced today they have received a $250,000 gift from local philanthropists Karen and Rob Hale through their family foundation, Fox Rock Foundation.

The gift, establishing an endowed fund, will contribute to the long-term financial stability of Cristo Rey Boston and further its mission of offering a rigorous curriculum, a unique work-study experience, and the support of an inclusive community to students of limited economic resources.

Cristo Rey Boston’s model combines a college preparatory education with workforce development skills to help close the opportunity gap for students from under-resourced communities. One day a week, students participate in a work placement with corporate business partners. The school is making intentional investments in the next generation by providing students with exposure to different industries and real-life experience, setting them on a path for success in college and career.

Rosemary J. Powers, President of Cristo Rey Boston, noted, “We are thankful to Rob and Karen Hale, for their pivotal gift as it builds long-term financial stability for Cristo Rey Boston. It recognizes the efforts students undertake to create a better future for themselves and their families.”

“Cristo Rey Boston High School is a model of education that is transformational for students from under-resourced communities, exposing students via the Corporate Work Study program to industries and mentors that would otherwise be inaccessible to them,” commented Rob Hale. “We recognize that at Granite Telecommunications, we are stronger thanks to the diversity of our staff. We are pleased to support Cristo Rey Boston, an organization committed to helping students overcome institutional bias, and achieve college and career success.

Cristo Rey Boston High School serves 220 students who predominantly hail from Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury. President Powers commented, “We are incredibly proud of our students, who are often the first in their families to attend college. Despite challenges, our students persevere and graduate from college at three times the rate of their peers in comparable socio-economic demographics. Cristo Rey Boston students are aspirational and hard-working young men and women who will become future leaders throughout Boston given the right opportunities.”
