Cristo Rey Boston Awards Full Tuition Scholarships to All Admitted Students

Full Press Release: February 8, 2021

Cristo Rey Boston High School is pleased to announce that effective February 1, 2021, all admitted students will be awarded a full tuition scholarship.

We have long been dedicated to serving students and families with limited economic resources with robust financial aid packages.

In partnership with our donors, grant funders, and CWSP partners, Cristo Rey Boston is committed to preparing our students to succeed in college and their careers. In supplying full tuition scholarships, we strengthen our commitment to closing the opportunity gap for college bound students from under-resourced communities.

“Acknowledging that Cristo Rey Boston students and families have been disproportionately impacted by the effects of COVID-19, the Board of Trustees has decided to provide full tuition-free scholarships to our existing students as well as incoming classes,” explained President Rosemary J. Powers. “This decision helps address the financial challenges that so many of our families experience and enables our students to pursue their academic and professional dreams, free from any financial worries that tuition might present.”

At its core, Cristo Rey Boston seeks to address the still unresolved problems of racial equity, social justice, and income inequality. Cristo Rey Boston, in partnership with our supporters, is making intentional investments in people, organizations, and communities of color, and delivering real change by building a pipeline of diverse, 21st century talent. Offering full tuition scholarships to Cristo Rey Boston’s students reflects the school’s commitment to identifying and removing the barriers that exist in the way of our students’ academic and professional success.

“Identifying systemic inequality in education is the first step to offering a remedy” according to Tom Guilfoile, Board Chairman. “We know that our students are bright, highly motivated young men and women. The question becomes how to ensure an education that provides the best opportunities for future success? We believe that a college preparatory curriculum, combined with the Corporate Work Study Program provides an unparalleled academic and career experience for our students that prepares them for success in college, their career and in life.”

The most identifiable characteristic of a Cristo Rey education is our unique work study model. The Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) is supported by professional partners from corporations across greater Boston committed to offering students the opportunity to work in a professional setting. All Cristo Rey Boston students must work one day per week and the revenue generated supports the student’s education.

Generous individuals and philanthropic organizations, as well as the support of our corporate partners, ensure that our financial model remains strong and allows us to support our students by providing full tuition scholarship.
