CRISTO REY BOSTON HIGH SCHOOL AWARDED $100,000 CUMMINGS GRANT

Cristo Rey Boston High School will receive four years of funding from the Cummings Foundation

DORCHESTER, MA, JUNE 10, 2022- Cristo Rey Boston High School is one of 140 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 to $500,000 each through Cummings Foundation’s $25 Million Grant Program. The Dorchester based organization was chosen from a total of 580 applicants during a competitive review process. It will receive $100,000 over four years.

Cristo Rey Boston High School, located in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester, is a Catholic high school that exclusively serves students from under-resourced communities across Greater Boston with a model that pairs rigorous academics with a Corporate Work-Study Program.

Students work one day a week in a corporate setting, gaining valuable career skills, and four days dedicated to a college preparatory academic schedule. The generous gift will support Cristo Rey Boston’s mission of providing a tuition free education and workforce development skills to help close the opportunity gap.

According to Cristo Rey Boston High School President, Rosemary J. Powers, “We believe that in supplying full-tuition scholarships, we strengthen our commitment to closing the opportunity gap for college-bound students from families with limited income and commit to identifying and removing the barriers that exist in the way of our students’ academic and professional success.”

“The Cummings Foundation’s four-year gift is invaluable in supporting our mission” stated Ms. Powers, noting that 100% of Cristo Rey Boston students have been accepted to college since 2010. She continued, “The Cummings Foundation has partnered with us in making intentional investments in the next generation and providing students from under-resourced communities with exposure to different industries and real-life experience and skills, setting them on a path for success in college and career.”
