AmeriCorps Volunteers

The Notre Dame Mission Volunteers AmeriCorps Program at Cristo Rey Boston High School provides college graduates the opportunity to serve urban young people through an innovative, Catholic educational model. Corps members serve at least one academic year with an option for a second year and live in a community in Dorchester, Massachusetts, a short walk to our school.

The goal of the program is to match the needs of the school with the interests, gifts, and talents of the Corps members. Corps members assist in the Corporate Work Study Program, teach work-study skills to freshmen, support extracurricular programming, assist with retreats and other Campus Ministry programs, serve as tutors, take part in the student advisory program, and assist our admission program. Depending on ability and interest, some Corps members have the opportunity to co-teach classes with experienced teachers.

Our objective is that Corps members will make a lasting impact on the school and its students, while gaining insights into what they want to do with their own lives and careers. Corps members will be changed by their experience at Cristo Rey Boston and be prepared to build a better world wherever they may live. Our expectation is that Corps members will leave with knowledge and an understanding of the unique issues that face urban youth, and will leave prepared to be a positive force in today’s society.
